I love it when a plan comes together
John “Hannibal” Smith, the cigar smoking leader of the A-Team would often say, “I love it when a plan comes together”, after pulling off some crazy series of events and saving the day. Often things really didn’t go as planned of course, and adjustments were made by the always ingenuitive members of the A-Team. But in the end, they beat bad guys. That is what Hannibal was always celebrating, the fact that they set off with a plan, ran into obstacles (often with semi-automatic weapons in this case) but found a way to overcome the challenges and find success.
Yes, you know what’s coming. Life is sometimes like the A-Team (cue theme music here). We all find ourselves facing challenges we would like to overcome. Sometimes these challenges are sought out. We want to learn a new skill, try a new sport, or even change careers. Often the challenges end up dropping right down in front of us when we aren’t looking, like someone just placed a boulder in our path. Regardless of how we came upon the challenge or obstacle, if we want to continue to move forward, the only choice is to face it. And how do you get through whatever it is you are now faced with? Why with a plan, of course.
You look at what you are facing, and using all of your brilliant super powers, you come up with some plan that will surely do the trick. Of course more often than not, the plan starts to break down. But here’s the key; when the plan starts to fall apart, simply make adjustments. Where often people stumble is when they are so bound to whatever the plan was they started out with, that they can’t see that some adjustments are needed. Things happen. Those who succeed are aware of those changes and make changes in response. This isn’t to say you throw the whole plan out the window, but tweak it.
So face your challenge. Make a plan. And when you are faced with your own version of gun wielding thugs, adjust to the situation and keep moving forward. In then end, your plan will come together, even if it looks a bit different than the one you started out with.
